Another drought comes to an end. The Carolina Hurricanes win their first Stanley Cup in 20 years.
The Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights, 3-0, in Las Vegas in Game of the Stanley Cup Finals. It’s the Hurricanes’ second championship in franchise history.
It’s been a terrific championship series. Every game has been thrilling and entertaining. The Golden Knights had an impeccable run. Not many people saw the Golden Knights make it all the way to the Cup Finals. They should keep their heads up.
Vegas had chances to score goals, especially in the third period, in the last five minutes of the game.
Today is all about the Hurricanes. They finished their playoff run 16-3, similar to the New York Knicks, who recently ended their 53-year championship drought. This franchise suffered heartbreaking losses before tasting this title. Carolina lost in the Eastern Conference Final in 2019, 2023, and 2025.
The 37-year-old Jordan Staal earned the Conn Smythe Trophy. His legacy is officially cemented and complete with this championship and winning the MVP trophy. Coach Rod Brind’Amour is a lucky man. He won the Cup as a player in 2006 and now as a player. The 55-year-old becomes the 14th person to win a Stanley Cup as both a player and a head coach.
Rookie goaltender Brandon Bussi played the best game of his life, and it came in Game 6. He made key stop after key stop. Jackson Blake had a good night by scoring a goal for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes showed tremendous tenacity. Nikolaj Ehlers scored on an empty net to ice the game for the Hurricanes. That got the part started back in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Hurricanes fans waited 20 years for this moment. The series’ momentum shifted when the Hurricanes came back from a 4-0 deficit in Game 3. What a brilliant playoff performance by the Hurricanes! Total team effort.
