The Last Decision! LeBron James finally made his decision for his NBA career and will take his talents to the Philadelphia Sixers.
James, 41, will be entering his 24th NBA season. The Sixers mark his fourth team. James will be joining a lineup of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown, who got traded from the Boston Celtics this offseason.
Will this put the Sixers as the heavy favorites in the East? Let’s not say “yes” so fast because we need to see if the team chemistry will function. We need to see how this team will play together. The Sixers will have to share the ball effectively for this to work out. In addition, the bench is just as important as the starting lineup.
To win a championship, you need stars and role players to step up. James is a great facilitator and doesn’t need to score heavily and play heavy minutes because he has teammates who can do that and have fresher legs. A lot of the scoring needs to come from Maxey and Brown. Embiid is still the top guy on the team, but he’s the least durable player from this new “core four.”
James will sign a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option. The Sixers haven’t won a championship since 1983. With the addition of James, it puts the Sixers a little closer to reaching that goal. The Sixers went 45-37 last season and lost to the New York Knicks, who went on to become world champions.
The City of Brotherly Love is thrilled by this news. James has some history with Philadelphia that goes back to his high school playing days. James played at the University of Pennsylvania’s Palestra gymnasium during a game in his junior year for St Vincent’s High School.
James ended the championship drought for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. Can he do it again a decade later?
