Berkshire Hathaway holds more than a $31 billion stake in Alphabet. It began in the third quarter of 2025, but it exploded in 2026 thanks to the leadership of Greg Abel after taking over the company from Warren Buffett.
Berkshire added $ 10 billion through a private stock purchase of Alphabet shares. Buffett joined CNBC for an interview to discuss whose idea it was to buy the tech giant and the investment behind it.
“I normally wouldn’t give you that answer on something like that, but I will because I am not doing anything that he doesn’t approve of. He’s not doing anything I don’t approve of. We talk all the time. He is the decider.”
Buffett is an undelfish human being and works well with the new CEO. Buffett would go on to explain the investments and also mention Burlington Northern Railroad.
“We are always making the choice between whether we’ll buy marketable securities or the company,” Buffett said. “We look at it the same way. If you take Coca-Cola, which we’ve owned for 45 years, whatever it may be. We don’t have a thing to do with running that business, but it’s a very good business.”
Buffett loves to invest in good businesses for the long haul. There’s a reason why he’s one of the wealthiest men in history and arguably the greatest investor ever. Buffett spends most of his time reading about everything in the stock market, investing, and business news.
Charlie Munger has been his partner for so many years. Munger passed away in 2023. Buffett doesn’t really like investing in tech companies, but that all changed with Google. As time goes on, investors like Buffett are open to new challenges and opportunities. High business earnings are critical to his success. Compounding is king!
