Two-time Pro Bowler Bijan Robinson is the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $75 million. Robinson will receive $51 million guaranteed, including $37 million at signing. Before Robinson, Falcons running back Saquon Barkley was the highest-paid running back. He’s now second on the list.
The Falcons have full trust in Robinson. The team believes that he’s a key figure to help them succeed going forward. Robinson, 24, led the NFL in scrimmage yards last season (2,298) and was fourth in rushing yards (1,478). He’s electric on the field. It’s a big day for Robinson and the Falcons organization.
There are Super Bowl aspirations for this team. Maybe not right now, but they will need guys like Robinson, wide receiver Drake London and company to make it possible. The Falcons still have more pieces to fill. Defense must be a priority. When a team has a great offensive line and defensive line, it strengthens the team to go far.
Falcons fans are still suffering from the Super Bowl loss against the New England Patriots. The fanbase needs the young core to bring back that same excitement to Atlanta, but hopefully it will all this time. The Falcons team must remain healthy, and Robinson should continue to impact the team by rushing for over 1,000 yards for the next three to five seasons.
Robinson has the tools to become one of the greatest running backs in history. The Falcons nation is hungry to see one of their own be mentioned in the same sentence as Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Marshall Faulk, and the list goes on.
The contract might or might not put some heavy pressure on Robinson. Being an effective leader on and off the field will be critical for this team. Falcons will begin their regular season on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sun, Sep 13.
