Michael Jackson’s biopic has been a big topic in the movie industry this year. Due to the movie’s success at the box office, Sony’s quarterly sales have risen.
The catalog drove Sony Music from 22% to 557.9 billion. It’s a major jump that occurred within three months, by the end of June. The biopic hit the theaters on April 24. Jaafar Jackson starred as Michael Jackson in the movie. Antoine Fuqua served as the director of the picture.
Two of Jackson’s songs, “Thriller” and “Bad,” were among the top 10 best-selling recorded music projects during the quarter. We all know the massive success Thriller was during the early 1980s. Bad is also one of Jackson’s greatest hits and albums, but Thriller takes it to the stratosphere.
The film reached over $1 billion globally and became Lionsgate’s highest-grossing film ever, one of the most successful music biopics of all time. Rotten Tomatoes critics rated the movie 38 percent. However, the fanbase saw it differently. The fans rated it 98 percent, and thousands wrote reviews of the movie.
In many people’s eyes who have followed Jackson’s career and his personal upbringing, moviegoers have seen the movie more than once, and some feel that the movie “blew them away.” Jaafar got praise for his performance. Overall, the movie is considered an enjoyable, feel-good movie that appreciates music and family.
Sony had a tough 2025 year in earnings. The company could have a big year, and Jackson’s catalog could be the start of great momentum for them. We wouldn’t be surprised if we see a possible sequel to the Jackson biopic.
The way the movie ended has people wondering whether the studios will go for it. It’s hard to pass it up, especially how successful the movie was at the box office.
