San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan got hurt in a car crash on July 14 in Palo Alto, California.
The mystery behind the crash is that the news of the accident was not reported for 11 days. The media went into a frenzy and are scratching their heads about this situation.
Did some NFL insiders fail to do great journalism? Did the 49ers want this to be a secret? Shanahan suffered a concussion, 40 stitches, broken ribs, and a broken nose. It seems that this was a very serious injury to the point where he almost lost his life.
Shanahan is a respectable and likable coach. His father, Mike, used to be a coach in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, where he won two Super Bowls, and he also coached the Washington Redskins. Kyle is seeking to bring a championship to San Francisco. It’s great that he’s still alive. Many people feel cheated or upset that this news report was reported late or that people were lying about it.
People think the 49ers and ESPN might be involved in hiding the truth about Shanahan. It’s rare for a story of this magnitude to go silent for days. Some journalists will keep digging for this story. Some journalists will go above and beyond to find the truth of any story.
If this was a cover-up, then it’s not a good look for the 49ers and ESPN. The story is not over. We will be seeing more news and information about this accident for days to come. It’s going to be interesting to see how much the sports media will milk this story.
As for Shanahan’s health, the 49ers organization will treat this injury as if he’s a football player. They’re going to go easy and cautious with him.
The 49ers will start preseason Week 1 on Thursday, Sept. 10, in Melbourne, Australia, against the Los Angeles Rams.
