Oklahoma Sooners and coach Brent Venables have agreed to a new 6-year contract that averages $10.5 million per year.
Venables has done a great job leading the Sooners. Venables and the Sooners reached the College Football Playoff last season. Before that, the Sooners went six seasons without making the playoffs.
The program believes in Venables’ vision. It’s only the beginning for the Sooners. Everyone in the program believes that Venables is the right coach to lead this group of men to success on and off the field. The current deal goes through 2031.
Venables is now in his fifth season with a 32-20 record. Venables is one of the top-paid coaches in College Football. The Sooners are in great hands for years to come. Seventeen players made it to the NFL Draft under Venables’ leadership. Ten of those 17 are offensive players.
One of the best seasons under Venables came in 2023. Venables led the Sooners to a 10-3 record that year. The Sooners ranked third nationally in total offense. Anywhere Venables goes, the team is bound for success. Venables has held other positions before becoming a head coach, such as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Venables has made stops in Kansas State and Clemson. He’s in his second stint with Oklahoma. Venables played linebacker at Kansas State. After his playing career and graduation, he began his coaching career in 1993 with the same school he played football for. Venables will always be grateful to Kansas State.
All his coaching experience has led him to this moment with the Sooners. With this new contract, the Sooners have high expectations. There is a lot of buzz about Indiana, Ohio State, and other football teams. The Sooners may have something to say about that. It’s going to be tough, but Venables isn’t a man who backs away from competition.
