Spain wins the 2026 FIFA World Cup over Argentina, 1-0.

Ferran Torres scored the winning goal for Spain to capture the title. Spain is once again world champions. Spain wasn’t afraid to make adjustments and didnt miss a beat. They never lost confidence and balance. Their defense was resilence and defense is what helps win championships.

Argentina couldn’t get anything going. Lionel Messi struggled to get touches. It took the defending champions almost two hours to finally get a goal. Messi ends his World Cup career in defeat at the age of 39. Regardless, he’s a legend and has nothing left to prove.

Messi is the only player to win the Golden Ball award multiple times. The first one was introduced in 1978. Rodri got the Golden Ball for this year’s tournament as the best player. It’s a remarkable accomplishment for Rodri after suffering an ACL injury two years ago. Spain had 20 shots, 12 on target, and 31 touches in the box.

Argentina lost the Cup final for the fourth time in seven trips. Argentina have been the comeback kids throughout this tournament. They always managed to come back and find ways to win. Their win against England was one of the best comebacks of this year’s World Cup. Argentina came into this game with a lot of confidence and felt good about their chance.

Spain were the favorites coming into the game. However, there were many people who underestimated Spain, especially in its defense. Spain silenced many critics with their performance. Spain is the world champion. They earned it fair and square, and they won the game by playing their style of game. It’s arguably the best defense in the tournament.

Eight starters from this year’s Spain team were the same starters from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It’s Spain’s second World Cup and their first since 2010.
