The No. 20 North Carolina Tar Heels outlast the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a 68-65 win at home.

Seth Trimble led the team with 19 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line, including seven rebounds and four steals.

R.J. Davis added 16 points. Ian Jackson added 15 points.

Georgia Tech’s Lance Terry scored 22 points. Nate Ndango added 19 points with 12 rebounds.

UNC didn’t play their best game. The team did enough little things to come away with the win.

Jackson and Powell need more playing time. Elliot Cadeau must shoot better. He’s a great facilitator. UNC needs him to be a consistent offensive threat.

“We needed something good to happen to us,” coach Hubert Davis said. “Nothing against Georgia Tech. Obviously, we didn’t play our best game, but to get a win, I thought, goes a long way for this group.”

Davis expects nothing but greatness from his players, and that’s always on his agenda.

“As a head coach, I play whatever card I need to play to get them,” Davis said. “I told them the only thing on my plan or my agenda is for them to max out everything they can do on the court, off the court, and in the classroom. I want them to be great, so I won’t settle for anything less than the best they can be on the floor.”

Jackson spoke to the media about what triggers the team to play more aggressively and pick up the pace in the second half.

“Our leaders on the floor,” Jackson said. “Our older guys, man, they talk to us, and we had to find out with a certain kind of energy, you know, and I feel like around that seven-minute mark, we kind of pick it up a little bit and push.”

The Tar Heels improved to 5-4. Their next game is next Saturday against La Salle in Chapel Hill at 4 p.m.
