The Washington Wizards have won the 2026 NBA Draft lottery.
It’s only the fifth time in their franchise history that the Wizards have won the draft lottery. The last time was with John Wall in 2010. Interestingly, Wall represented the Wizards at the lottery event on Sunday.
The Wizards have been rebuilding for a couple of years. Before the season ended, the Wizards acquired Anthony Davis and Trae Young through trades. We will see how it works when both men come next season fully healthy. The Wuzards also have some young, talented players on the roster. Washington hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2021; they lost to the Philadelphia Sixers in the first round.
When are we going to see the Wizards win a championship? The team has only one title in its franchise history. They won it in 1978. It’s time for Wizards fans to start tasting success. The front office made some moves last season, and now they must draft the right player to help anchor this franchise.
There are many point guards to go into the first round for this year’s draft. In terms of the first five picks, there are many forwards. BYU’s AJ Dybantsa is a high possibility to go No. 1 in the draft. Dybanysa scored 25.5 this season. He’s a legit scorer with tremendous athleticism. He can also get to the foul line.
Dybantsa should also become a defensive presence. The Wizards need someone who can be great at both ends of the floor. Dybantsa can be that player if he elevates his game and consistently works on his fundamentals. His development is something to keep an eye on.
As for the other draft selections, the Utah Jazz went No. 2, the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 3. The Indiana Pacers dropped the ball by giving away their No. 5 pick to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The NBA Draft Lottery will be held June 23-24 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The NBA combine will be next week in Chicago.
