By Miguel Mike Medina

Saturday, December 22, 2024, should be a day to be remembered for a long time in Sports history. Many sporting events took place on one Saturday.

Did we witness the most excellent Saturday Sports ever?

Saturday Sporting events consist of the following:

– College Basketball, 12 NBA games, 3 College Football Playoff games, 2 NFL Games, Tiger and Charlie Woods in action, and many more.

College Football Playoffs

Penn State Nittany Lions dominated the SMU Mustangs to start Saturday’s playoffs. The Nittany Lions’ defense intercepted three times in the first half, two resulting in “Pick Six.” Penn State won 38-10 and will set a meeting with Boise State in the Quarterfinals.

Texas Longhorns running game torturer Clemson Tigers. Clemson kept fighting back to make the game close, but Jaydon Blue’s 77-yard touchdown put the dagger in the hearts of the Tigers.

Texas will play No. 4 Arizona State in the quarterfinals of the Peach Bowl.

Ohio State Buckeyes set the tone from the beginning against the Tennessee Volunteers. The Buckeyes’ first three drives all resulted in touchdowns as the OSU offense ran 17 plays for 201 yards. The Buckeyes won 42-17.

The Buckeyes will meet the No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

The Comeback Games

UNC Tar Heels rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat the UCLA Bruins 76-74 at Madison Square Garden. Freshman Ian Jackson led the team with 24 points off the bench. It was also his career high.

Jackson showed up and delivered in his first game at the garden. He’s a kid who grew up in the Bronx. This is also the Tar Heels’ first victory against a ranked Top 25 team this season.

Edmonton Oilers scored a game-tying goal at 2 with 18 seconds left in the third period against the San Jose Sharks. Corey Perry made a quick pass to Ekholm in the slot and blasted his fifth of the season into the net.

Leon Draisaitl scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

The epic collapsed by the Miami Heat. The Orlando Magic came back from a 25-point deficit to beat their rival in an epic fourth-quarter comeback where the Magic were missing at least five of their seven best players.

The Magic outscored the Heat 38 to 7 in the fourth quarter, earning their second victory over the Heat.

PNC Championship

Tiger and his son Charlie Woods performed exceptionally well in the Round One of the PNC Championship.

They finish Saturday’s round at -13 and will go for their first PNC Championship title Sunday.
