The Arizona State Sun Devils defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 9-8 on Friday, Opening Day in Phoenix.
It was a thrilling back-and-forth game. Both teams showed up offensively. It all started in the first inning when the Buckeyes scored two runs, and then the Sun Devils responded with three runs.
Sun Devils catcher Josiah Cromwick had an incredible performance with two hits and 4 RBIs. In the third and seventh innings, Cromwick gave the Sun Devils the lead twice.
First baseman Jacob Tobias added 3 RBIs for the Sun Devils. Tobias and Cromwick did the most damage from the Sun Devils lineup. Right fielder Kien Vu collected two hits.
Buckeyes first baseman Ryan Miller homered in the fourth inning. Designated Hitter Mason Eckelman led the Buckeyes with a career-high three RBIs. The Buckeyes left six men on base.
Lucas Kelly got the win for the Sun Devils. Hunter Shaw is the losing pitcher. Shaw gave up three earned runs through three innings. Will Koger picked up his first save of the season. The game ended on a double play.
Ohio State and Arizona State will conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN Plus.
