Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz’s performance will be discussed for years in the history of the Reds organization.
De La Cruz went 4-for-5 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and four runs scored in a 14-3 win over the Texas Rangers.
The Reds erupted for six runs in the sixth inning. Brady Singer got the start for the Reds in his debut. Singer was masterful. He recorded eight strikeouts through seven innings and gave up just one hit.
Matt McLain started things when he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. He went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. But this game is all about De La Cruz.
The third-year shortstop recorded seven RBIs, his career high. Everyone who was in attendance at Great American Ball Park witnessed a historic performance by a young star.
Reds center fielder TJ Friedl also had a good night. Friedl scored 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and a stolen base.
The Reds will have Carson Spoets take the mound on Tuesday against Nathan Eovaldi. The first pitch is at 6:40.
De La Cruz is hitting .438 with seven hits this season. McLain leads the team with three homers, including five RBIs, while hitting .313.
