Cincinnati Reds were shut out for the second consecutive game, as the Rangers’ pitching stayed in command by winning 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Reds now have a 2-4 record in the year. Their offense striked our ten times. Jack Leiter had the Reds bags in silence through five innings. Leiter is now 2-0 in the season.
Hunter Greene pitched an incredible game. He was better than in his last outing against the San Francisco Giants.
Greene used his breaking point effectively. Greene even reached a 100 mph four-seam fastball. He looked comfortable and confident on the mound. Greene finished the game with eight strikeouts and gave up three hits and one walk. Greene also recorded 500 strikeouts in his career.
Unfortunately, the day of this milestone was ruined because he did not get enough help from the offense. He suffered his first loss as a starter this season.
Josh Smith was the catalyst for the Rangers on Wednesday. Smith made an incredible defensive play with his back turned and made a diving catch to end the second inning.
Then, in the top of the fourth inning, he got the only game run when he doubled to left center field, bringing Joc Pederson home.
The Reds left three men on base. Elly De La Cruz recorded the only double for the Reds. He also made a tremendous defensive play in the top of the 8th when he made a backhand sliding catch on the foul line. It was a fantastic play.
The Ress will begin a 4-game weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers starting tonight at 7:40. Nick Lodolo will take on Nestor Cortes.
