Rays Struggle Offensively: Series Loss to Yankees

By Miguel Mike Medina

Tampa Bay Rays offense went silent as they got shut out by the New York Yankees, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon. Rays lose the weekend series.

Max Fried remains perfect (4-0, 1.42 ERA), allowing just two hits through seven innings. Rays starter Ryan Pepiot loses his third game of the season (1-3, 4.82) ERA). Pepiot had seven strikeouts but gave up six hits and three earned runs through six innings.

Rays offense was a no-show. They left six men on base and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Todd Grisham opened up the game with a home run for the Yankees. Grisham has been red hot lately. He’s a great asset for the Yankees clubhouse. It’s his sixth home run of the year.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to make it 3-0 for the Yankees. It’s Bellinger’s second home run of the year. Austin Wells connected his fourth home run of the year in the top of the ninth inning.

The Rays are 9-13, sitting last in the AL East. The Rays have Monday off as they travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks for a three-game series starting Tuesday.
