Country singer-songwriter and businesswoman Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday.
Parton was born to be a singer and write songs. Parton grew up and died in Tennessee. She comes from a family of 14. Parton and her family were very poor, but were rich in love. Her family shared a passion for listening to and singing music.
Her philanthropy and business savvy is another reason why people became attached to her. She also had a great sense of humor. Parton delivered more than 300 million free books to children.
Parton had many incredible songs such as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “9 to 5,” and many more. Parton wrote “Jolene” in 1973, and she wrote the song in minutes. It came easily to her, and when an artist finds inspiration to write a song, they get it done fast.
Many people think that Whitney Houston created “I Will Always Love You,” but Houston sampled the song from Parton. Parton absolutely loved and admired the work Houston made with the song. The song was featured in the 1992 “The Bodyguard” movie soundtrack.
Parton joined Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and the rest of the cast in the “9 to 5” movie. It is one of the best comedy/musical movies of the 1980s.
“It just popped in my head one day, and it was when we did our first scene,” Parton said. “I was writing this song. We were waiting in the Xerox room the first time we were together on the thing, and I started clicking my nails, which I get rid of if I can’t get on the instrument.”
Parton’s work ethic was amazing. She memorized everyone’s lines.
