The Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game weekend series sweep on the road against the San Diego Padres. On Sunday afternoon, the Rays won 4-2.
Zack Littell finally got the monkey off his back and earned his first win of the season after five winless starts. Littell gave up one earned run, five hits, and one strikeout through five innings of work. Pete Fairbanks earned his sixth save of the season.
Taylor Walls hit his first home run of the season in the third inning. Brandon Lowe then had an RBI single to put the Rays up 2-1 in the same inning.
Tampa scored their third game run on a wild pitch by Padres’ pitcher Randy Vasquez. Center fielder Chandler Simpson hustled his way home.
Simpson would strike again when he picked up an RBI single to left field to bring left fielder Travis Jankowski home to make it 4-2. Simpson had a good day, going 3-for-4. Lowe went 2-for-5. Jankowski went 2-for-4.
The Rays went 2-for-8 in runners in scoring position, leaving seven men on base. The Rays improved to 14-14.
The Rays have Monday off and will begin a three-game home series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday at 7:05.
