Cincinnati Reds’ starter Nick Martinez shuts down St Louis Cardinals in a 3-1 win on Monday. Reds have won five straight games.
Martinez pitched six innings and gave up just one earned run. He also had three strikeouts. Gavin Lux is another player of the game for the Reds. Lux went 3-for-4 with three hits and one RBI.
Catcher Jose Trevino hit a home run to center field to put the Reds on the board in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Noelvi Marte hit a triple to bring a run home.
The Reds improve to 16-13. Brady Singer (4-0, 3.62 ERA) will take the mound for the Reds against Miles Mikolas (0-2, 5.70 ERA). The first pitch is at 6:40.
Marlins vs Dodgers
Tommy Edman plays the hero for the Dodgers. Edman hit a 2-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it for the Dodgers over the Miami Marlins, 6-5.
The Dodgers almost gave this game away. At one point, they had a 5-0 lead. The Marlins rallied with a 5-run inning in the sixth, and Dane Myers had the big hit with a grand slam to tie the game.
Jesus Sanchez came through clutch when he doubled in the top of the 10th inning. However, the Marlins bullpen couldn’t hold on to the lead. Ronny Henriquez got the loss for the Marlins.
The Brandon Nimmo Game
After the Mets suffered a heartbreaking loss on Sunday to the Nationals, the Mets gave the Nationals something to remember on Monday. The Mets erupted for 19 runs.
Nimmo had a career day in the nation’s Capitol. He went 4-for-6 with 9 RBIs. Nimmo hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, which was followed by a grand slam in the seventh inning.
The Mets won the four-game series 19-5 over the Nationals.
