The Tampa Bay Rays offense came alive on Saturday as they wrapped up the weekend series in the Bronx after winning 7-5 on Sunday afternoon against the New York Yankees.
Jonathan Aranda hit a home run to center field, which landed in the Yankee bullpen. It’s Aranda’s fifth home run of the season. Brandon Lowe added a 2-run single in the fourth inning to make it 4-0. Yandy Diaz followed up with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
Yankees started a rally after outfielder Cody Bellinger hit a 2-run home run to put the Yankees on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. It’s Bellinger’s 200th career home run.
Aranda would respond again when he collected a 2-run single in the eleventh inning to make it a 5-run game (7-2). Aranda finished the game going 3-for-4 with three hits, including a home run and two walks—the undisputed player of the game for the Rays.
Left fielder Travis Jankowski and Diaz combined for six hits. Right fielder Kameron Misner continues to struggle as he strikes out four times.
Taj Bradley got the win. Bradley allows two earned runs in five innings of work. Pete Fairbanks got the save and recorded three strikeouts. The Rays improved to 16-18.
The Rays have Monday off. They will begin a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. Drew Rasmussen will take the mound for the Rays against Zack Wheeler.
