It’s a Sunday with a lot of sports action: Round Four of the PGA Championship, two Game 7s, and the series finale of the Subway Series.
Scottie Scheffler is currently leading the scoreboard after round three. Scheffler made 13 of 14 fairways, added three birdies and 27 putts, and has converted the last seven solo 54-hole leads on the PGA Tour.
Scheffler got off to a slow start in the PGA Championship. Jhonattan Vegas had the lead in the first and second rounds. Scheffler got hot at the right time and had a three-shot lead heading into Round Four.
Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder will play their Game 7 today at 3:30. The Nuggets received tough news before the game. Aaron Gordon has a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and it won’t heal in weeks.
Losing Gordon for the rest of the postseason, especially in an elimination game, would be a devastating blow to the Nuggets. Gordon has been sensational in the playoffs. He made two game-winners and a clutch three-pointer to send the game to overtime.
The Nuggets will need the other role players to step up in his absence. They lost a good two-way player for the playoffs.
The other Game Seven is the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs won the first two games of the series, then the Panthers won the next three, and the Maple Leafs went on the road to win Game 6. A fight broke out at the end of Game 6.
It’s going to be war in this Game 7. Both teams have a history and don’t like each other. Can the Maple Leafs get over the hump and clinch a trip to the Conference Finals for the first time in years? Will the Panthers step up and protect their title?
The New York Mets and New York Yankees will close out their Subway weekend series tonight. The Yankees won Game One, and the Mets won Game Two.
Yankee fans have been booing and showing harsh signs to former Yankee outfielder Juan Soto. Every time Soto steps up to the plate, Yankee fans boo Soto.
The fans’ ungrateful attitude toward a player who performed at a high level last season, including the big home run in the ALCS, is unfortunate. However, Soto is all about smiles and having a good time. The boos don’t seem to bother him.
Yankee outfielder Aaron Judge was terrible behind the plate on Saturday. Judge went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts. Mets closer Edwin Diaz struck him out with a 98 miles per hour.
Tonight’s pitchers taking the mound are Max Fried (6-0), who leads the major leagues with a 1.11 ERA, against Mets lefty David Peterson (2-2, 3.05).
The Mets are 29-17, while the Yankees are 26-19 this season.
