Cincinnati Reds’ TJ Friedl played the hero when he delivered a clutch two-run double to lead the Reds to a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins to grab the series opener on Tuesday night.
It was one of those games where a baseball fan would feel they would have a heart attack or get very nervous. The Twins and Reds put up a good fight and gave the fans what they wanted.
The Reds showed grit. This was one of the best and most exciting games of the season for this team.
One of the big errors of the game came from Christian Encarnacion-Strand, but luckily, the Reds got the win. The Reds improve to 38-35 and are only 1.5 games out of the playoff race.
Reds pitcher Scott Barlow (2-0) earned the win. Andrew Abbott, who had a great outing at his last start, performed well last night against the Twins but received a no-decision.
Of course, we can’t forget the defensive play of the game, which came from Byron Buxton.
Buxton robbed a home run on a terrific defensive play at centerfield. In the following inning, hit hits a home run to centerfield.
Will Benson had a double with 2 RBIs. The 2-run double came in the fourth inning when he drilled the ball to the center field wall. It was Benson’s payback moment.
Harrison Bader hit a big three-run home run for the Twins. It looked as if momentum shifted their way, but again, the Reds didn’t quit and pulled some late magic in the eighth inning.
Reds starter Nick Lodolo (4-5, 3.76 ERA) is scheduled to throw against the Twins’ Bailey Ober (4-3, 4.40 ERA) on Wednesday night.
