Reds Rally in Thrilling 9th Inning Win Against Rockies

By Miguel Mike Medina

The Cincinnati Reds rallied and won in the ninth inning thanks to a fielder’s choice error with the final score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Great American Ballpark.

Trialing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Noelvi Marte provided the spark for the Reds when he hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to one.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Will Benson tied the game on an RBI triple to bring Spencer Steer home. Benson has been big time for the Reds this season. This team can go far if it can stay healthy and consistent.

While Marte was at the plate, he reached on a fielder’s choice error by Orlando Arcia, which allowed Benson to score the winning run. It’s an anticlimactic victory, but the Reds will take that over a loss any day.

Reds starter Brady Singer had a solid outing. He tossed six innings while striking out nine Rockies and gave up three earned runs. If the Reds had given him more run support, he would’ve received more credit for his performance on Saturday.

The Reds are now 49-47. Saturday’s win over the Rockies was sweeter and memorable because their manager, Terry Francona, reached 1,999 career wins.

On Sunday, the Reds can close out the first half with a lot of momentum by reaching 50 wins and helping Francona get his 2,000th win.

It begins with the right-hander starter Nick Martinez, who will take the mound against left-hander Austin Gomber.
