Roman Anthony and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to an 8-year, $130 million extension.

The 21-year-old outfielder feels secure and ready to help the Red Sox organization for the long haul. We are talking about a player who made his MLB debut this season. Teams are getting smarter by signing young players to long-term contracts. It’s a hard deal to turn down.

Anthony is putting up decent numbers in his rookie campaign. Through 46 games, he’s hitting .2&3 with 18 extra-base hits, 27 runs, .400 on-base percentage, .428 slugging percentage, and a 1.8 WAR.

If you’re the Red Sox, this is excellent production from your first-year player. The Red Sox will have Anthony through 2034.

The Eed Sox are built for something massive in the AL East because they have locked up contracts for at least four current players through 2030. From this season until 2030, the Red Sox could be title contenders. Anthony joins Garrett Crochet, Ceddanne Rafaela, infielder Kristian Campbell, and right-hander Brayan Bello in signing long-term contracts.

The nucleus of this Red Sox group already shows what they can do once they reach their prime years. Veterans like Trevor Story and Alex also surround the Red Sox’s Bregman.

The combination of the young core and veteran players is why the Red Sox have been playing terrific baseball lately. The Red Sox are 64-52, in second place in the AL East. They trail four games behind the Toronto Blue Jays and are in first place in the wild card spot.

If the season were to end today, the Red Sox would play against the Seattle Mariners, who are in second place in the wild card race.

Anthony is still developing, and we haven’t seen the best version of him yet, but there’s no doubt that he will reach elite status if he stays healthy.

Anthony was the second-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. He played at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, where the Red Sox discovered his talent.
