The Miami Dolphins fell short to the Buffalo Bills 31-21 on Thursday night. The Dolphins remain winless (0-3), as the Bills improve to 3-0.
The Dolphins have been improving and playing better, but it’s not resulting in a victory. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made a crucial mistake at the wrong time. Tagovailoa threw an interception during the three-minute mark in the fourth quarter. Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard picked off a pass intended for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
This is one of the two critical mistakes the Dolphins made in the fourth quarter. Before the interception, the game was tied 21-21. Dolphins defensive lineman Zach Sieler, in an attempt to block the punt, ran into Cameron Johnston and was flagged for roughing the kicker.
The penalty cost the Dolphins a big one. The Bills got the help they needed, and a couple of plays later, the Bills scored a touchdown to regain the lead, 28-21.
Miami got on the board when they scored the first touchdown of the game by Ollie Gordon—fantastic drive to start the game. The running back had a solid performance against the Bills, and we need to see more of Gordon’s contributions.
“It felt really good, honestly, just to show my teammates, my coaches that they can trust me whenever we’re in the heat of the moment,” Gordon said.
Offensively, the Dolphins made some nice plays, especially when Tua threw touchdown passes to wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21. Hill did a backflip while celebrating in the end zone. Hill played his heart out in this game.
“I think we played good,” Hill said. “Obviously, there were some mistakes in the game. I also could have made some plays myself.”
It was a must-win game for the Dolphins. Head coach Mike McDaniel’s job was on the line. He made some puzzling call plays that didn’t make sense. The Dolphins should have run the ball. They needed to stick to the running game. There’s a chance he could get fired after this game, or the front office may wait until after the season is over.
The loss against the Bills was a heartbreaker. It’s arguably the best game the Dolphins have played this season so far.
Bills quarterback continues his dominance against the Dolphins. He’s now 14-2 against Miami and also 8-0 all-time on Thursday night games.
