Miami Hurricanes’ defense carried the load against the Florida Gators as the Hurricanes remain perfect with a 26-7 win at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Hurricanes are 4-0 in three consecutive seasons. Miami improved to 78-3 at home as an AP Top 5 team.
Rueben Bain continues to make his case for one of the best defensive linemen in college football. His presence is essential for this team. He was all over the field against the Gators.
Hurricanes’ defense limited the Gators to only 61 passing yards. In addition, the Hurricanes’ defense held the Gators to 0-for-13 on third-down conversions.
Carson Beck had his worst performance of the season, but it’s okay because not every game will be amazing. He completed 17 of his 30 completions for 160 yards and had one interception. He’s now 3-0 against the Gators.
Mark Fletcher Jr had 24 carries with 116 yards and one touchdown. Elija Lofton had four receptions for 43 yards. ChaMar Brown had four receptions and 53 yards.
“Those two guys have been extremely physical,” coach Mario Cristobal said after the game. “They’ve been diligent about their craft. They do a great job getting their pads down and getting the muddy yards.”
Hurricanes had six penalties in the first half, which affected their offense. The team still needs to focus on the penalties. Pre-snap penalties are one of their weaknesses. The offensive line must be more disciplined.
Miami outgained Florida 344-141. Hurricanes’ running game was terrific. But who deserves the game ball? The entire Hurricanes defense and the defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman.
Hurricanes and Gators are a historical rivalry. There’s a lot of bad blood, but there’s also respect from both sides of the party.
Rivalry tour doesn’t stop there. The Hurricanes have the week off next week. Their next matchup will be against rival, the Florida State Seminoles, on Oct 4 in Tallahassee.
