The Miami Dolphins finally earned their first win of the season after defeating the New York Jets, 27-21, on Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

It’s a feel-good win for Coach Mike McDaniels and the Dolphins. However, it’s bittersweet in a way because their best wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, went down with a knee injury.

Hill, who sustained a dislocated knee, was carted off the field. The injury occurred during the third quarter after being tackled by Jets defensive back Malachi Moore after making a catch along the sideline. Hill finished the game with six receptions for 67 yards.

Since joining the Dolphins, Hill has put up 4,666 yards and 27 touchdowns on 334 receptions. Hill is 31 years old and has been durable for the most part of his career. A serious injury like this one could keep him out for quite some time, and it’s not guaranteed that he will return to the same level of play.

Aside from the devastating news, the Dolphins played terrific football. The Dolphins’ defense delivered an outstanding performance, especially in the first half, by consistently pressuring Jets quarterback Justin Fields and forcing him to make contested throws. The Jets committed three turnovers.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 17 of his 25 passes and three for two touchdowns. Tight end Darren Waller had a great night catching two touchdowns: one in the second and the other in the third quarter.

Dolphins running back De’von Achane rushed 20 times for 99 yards and a touchdown, which came in the third quarter.

The Dolphins are now 1-3 in the season. Coach McDaniels still has the job. Their next task will be on the road against the Carolina Panthers (1-3) on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 pm.
