The Washington Wizards landed center Anthony Davis in an 8-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
Davis is a 10-time All-Star and world champion with the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers. Davis’s trade to the Wizards comes as a surprise. The Wizards will have Davis and Trae Young as the new duo in the nation’s capital.
Here’s how the trade looks:
Washington receives:
- Anthony Davis
- Jaden Hardy
- D’Angelo Russell
- Dante Exum
Dallas receives:
- Khris Middleton
- AJ Johnson
- Malaki Branham
- Marvin Bagley III
- Two future first-round picks
- Three future second-round picks
Injuries have been a part of Davis’ career. He hasn’t been on the court since mid-January. The Dallas experiment failed after the Mavs traded Star Luka Doncic for Davis. Also, Kyrie Irving went down with a torn ACL last year. Irving, a 9-time All-Star, hasn’t been on the court since last March.
The Wizards are nowhere near competitive this season. Their goal is to focus on next season. The organization hopes that Davis and Young will commit to the team and help them win.
The Wizards could have a solid team next season with the new duo alongside Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and rookie Tre Johnson, who has been carrying the load for the Wizards. Johnson is a talented player for Washington this season.
Davis is averaging 20 points a game, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and shooting 50 percent from the field. Davis is still productive, both offensively and defensively. He hasn’t averaged over 25 points since the 2022-23 season. It could all change once he comes back to the court fully healthy.
Wizards fans are excited to have two all-star-caliber players on the team. The Wizards haven’t been to the playoffs since 2021, and haven’t had a division title since 2017 during the John Wall-Bradley Beal era. The Wizards are currently 13-36, one of three teams tied for last in the Eastern Conference standings.
