Hip Hop mogul Jay-Z will make a big return to the stage. The fan base has waited over a year to hear some news about one of the all-time greats making an impact on stage, and he won’t do it alone.
Jay-Z will be joining The Roots at the Roots Picnic 2026. It’s going to be a big year for Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, as he approaches the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. The album was released on June 25, 1996, and is considered one of the best hip hop albums of all time.
In addition, he’s approaching another anniversary for his most consistent album, The Blueprint, which turns 25 this year. Jay-Z has two iconic albums, and both should be celebrated with an event. We shall see.
The 2026 Roots Picnic at Philadelphia’s Belmont Plateau will be a two-day festival on May 30 and May 31. Jay-Z and The Roots haven’t shared a stage in over a decade. The reunion will be special. General on-sale starts on March 18 at 10 a.m. ET.
The Roots is a band from Philadelphia. It all started in 1987 with the duo of singer Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. Questlove went on to achieve great things in his career and became better known for his work with Jimmy Fallon.
Questlove served as the house band on the show since 2014. The Jimmy Fallon Show has an extra flavor and energy thanks to Questlove and his music. His contributions to the show are massive. As for The Roots, they are an important part of hip-hop history and had tremendous success during the 1990s and even the early 2000s.
Jay-Z’s last major festival appearance was a surprise set at Pharrell’s Something in the Water in 2019. In terms of festivals in Philadelphia, it’s a familiar territory for him since he created the Made In America Festival, which takes place around Labor Day Weekend. Jay appeared in 2012 (first year) and 2017.
