The Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders meeting event took place on Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska.
Current CEO Greg Abel is having a mesmerizing weekend. It’s reported that operating earnings increased by 17 percent during his tenure in the first quarter. That’s gold. Warren Buffett must be satisfied that he has picked the right leader to continue the company’s growth and future.
One of the things Abel spoke about during the shareholders meeting was Berkshire and its future in tech innovation.
“It has to be additive to our businesses,” Abel said. “We’re not going to do AI for the sake of AI. We need to know what we’re trying to achieve and whether we see a valuable proposition for businesses. That’s what we call narrow AI.”
“Buffett had a different look at the meeting. He wasn’t dressed up in a suit and tie like we are accustomed to seeing for many years. Buffett looked comfortable and cheerful. He’s 95 years old, but his spirit and aura are much younger. Buffett shared a message during an interview on CNBC to his company’s shareholders.
“The number one rule I give them is just not to give them the golden rule to others,” Buffett said. “I’m not a religious guy, but I mean nobody said it any better and in a couple thousand years than that, which may be why it’s lasted a certain degree, too. More people are reading a 2,000 year old book about how to behave than anything that anybody’s coming up with lately. If the whole world lived by the golden rule it would be such a wonderful society.”
Actor and comedian Bill Murray attended the event. To everyone’s surprise, he’s been a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder since the 1970s. Murray has been attending the annual event for 5 years. Murray has enjoyed himself at the event, and he also likes the new CEO. Murray described Abel as a “very friendly” person.
