Berkshire Hathaway has a new CEO at its annual meeting for the first time in 60 years. It’s no longer Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. It’s now in the hands of Greg Abel.
Abel sat down for an interview on CNBC to describe how he’s feeling about the meeting and his expectations for what’s to come.
“We have our owners here and these couple of days are especially on Saturdays, it’s owners’ day,” Abel said. “I just want them to know that Warren brought this amazing commitment to Berkshire and a deep understanding.”
Abel is planning to keep things the way they are and bring the same passion to the meeting as every year. Abel praises the exceptional leadership in the businesses and everyone he has met throughout the years.
“We very much operate it where this ownership mentality is their business,” Abel said. “What we want is to be on stage, let all the owners, all the shareholders, see the depth of management in Berkshire.”
Abel is careful about picking the right managers for the company, especially on the insurance side. Abel felt Warren’s support in recruiting new members for a new team. Abel values people with experience and can run an amazing business. Serving customers is the goal of success. It’s the lifeblood of business.
When Abel was asked about who he bounces ideas to or who he goes to for advice and asks questions, there’s no denying that Warren is at the top of that list.
“Warren still comes into the office every day,” Abel said. “He’s a great sounding board. There’s a lot of collaboration now. I’ve always been meeting with our other businesses or looking at certain opportunities. Still, when I’m here, it’s a discussion around what we’re seeing him and I, how do things feel, what do I see as opportunities, what’s he seeing as an opportunity, and so on, an exceptional sounding board.”
The 2026 Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, in Omaha, Nebraska.
