Any actor would want to have a gold trophy placed inside their home. It must be a good feeling. That’s a great motivation for why most of them move to Hollywood. Winning an Oscar is not easy. Tom Cruise is one of the best actors of his generation. He hasn’t won an Oscar yet. Will he ever win an Oscar before his time is up?
Tom Cruise is no longer seeking to chase roles for Oscar consideration. We could be wrong, but it’s far from his mind. He’s into action movies and created his stunts. Cruise should’ve won an Oscar for a supporting role in Magnolia. He was outstanding. It still baffles me that a Michael Caine won over him. It is one of the lousiest decisions the Academy has ever made. Michael Caine is an extraordinary actor. He had range. Caine is one of the greatest actors of all time. The Academy got it wrong in 1999 to give him Best Supporting Aftor over Tom Cruise.
Cruise did win a Golden Globe for Magnolia. He got hosed that year for not winning an Oscar. Ten years prior, Tom Cruise shined in another movie, and this one is one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies, Born On the Fourth of July.
Born On the Fourth of July, directed by Oliver Stone, had fantastic writing and directing. Tom Cruise delivered an outstanding performance playing the role of Ron Kovic, a teenager who enlists in the Marine. He served the ear and was proud of his country, but things changed when he returned home and changed his views about the war. He became a tough critic, and people didn’t understand what he had gone through. Cruise’s performance was incredible. He also won a Golden Globe for his role. He the Best Actor category lost to Daniel Day-Lewis.
Cruise won his third Golden Globe for his role in Jerry Maguire. The movie had so many great quotes. Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr were the MVPs of that movie. Their performances carry the movie, but Gooding Jr had more energy and more shine in this movie than Cruise. Did Cruise get robbed for an Oscar that year? No, he lost fair and square to Geoffrey Rush for Best Actor.
If Tom Cruise ever wins an Oscar, it would be as a Producer. His last Oscar nomination came in 2022 with Top Gun: Maverick. He served as the actor and producer of the film. Tom Cruise is not the only actor to not have an Oscar. You have other actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Bradley Cooper, Harrison Ford, Michael Keaton, Jake Gyllenhaal, etc. We are still waiting and hoping that someday Tom Cruise gets that gold trophy placed inside his trophy case in his home.
