Carlos Alcaraz defeated Andrey Rublev at the ATP Finals in Turin on Wednesday.

Alcaraz won the first set 6-3. Rublev put up a better fight in the second set. The second set ended with a tie at 6-6.

In the third set, after trailing 6-5, Alcaraz came back to score two more points, winning the set 10-8.

Alcaraz wasn’t feeling well, but he gave a great performance. He spoke after the match about his illness and the game.

“I tried to be better from the first match,” Alcaraz said. “The first match against Casper was in my mind. I wasn’t focused enough on playing tennis. It was a focus to, you know, I was sick, I couldn’t play well. I couldn’t focus on the match, so I tried to be better and try to be better against Rublev. Try to forget about everything. Once you step on the court, I want to play good tennis. So the people on my tennis team are still there playing good points and good rallies, and I’m really happy with the way that I felt today.”

It’s Alcaraz’s 12th top-10 win this year, a career-high for a single season.

The match between Alcaraz and Alexander

Zverev will be fun to watch. Zverev currently ranks as the second seed.

If Zverev beats Alcaraz in the final round of the group stage on Friday, he will guarantee his place in the semi-finals.
