The St. John’s Red Storm suffered a crushing defeat to the Baylor Bears, 99-98. It’s the team’s first loss of the season.
On Thursday, the Baha Mar Hoops Championship game went to double overtime, and the action felt like a March Madness battle.
Jeremy Roach hit the game-winning three at the buzzer. The crowd went electric, and the shot went in. It’s an incredible comeback by the Bears.
The Johnnies led by 14 by halftime. Bears never quit and fought to get back in the game in the second half.
The Red Storm played in its first double-overtime contest since beating DePaul, 92-83, on Feb. 14, 2023.
Omier finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Roach recorded 20 points with four assists.
St. John’s junior forward Zuby Ejiofor led the Johnnies in double figures with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor, including ten rebounds with five blocks in 42 minutes.
Aaron Scott added 20 points. He made five of six from downtown. RJ Luis Jr recorded 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a pair of blocks.
The Johnnies shot 54 percent from the field and 58 percent from beyond the arc.
The team must recover quickly as they will be on the road to take on Virginia (3-1) on Friday at 7pm.
