The Minnesota Wild defeated the Edmonton Oilers in a tense, physical game by the final score of 5-3.

Frederick Gaudreau had two goals and an assist for the Wild. Ryan Hartman added two assists. Marcus Foligno recorded two points (one goal and one assist).

Leon Draisaitl scored his 15th goal of the season. Corey Perry had a goal and an assist. Stuart Skinner made 21 saves.

The Oilers fall to 10-9-2 in the season. Tough times are occurring in Edmonton.

Perry spoke with the media after the game about the Oilers’ loss.

“It’s a tough league,” Perry said. “Everybody comes in; everybody wants to play their game against us at the top level. We have to respond. They made plays tonight & we didn’t, that’s the end of the game.”

Mattias Ekholm knows the Oilers have to be much better and credit the Wild for their tenacity.

“I think they had a little bit more jump than we did,” Ekholm said. “A little more juice & obviously, that showed up in the game. That’s up to us to be better & come better prepared.”

The Oilers must be consistent and get on a winning streak. They will be adamant about beating the opponent when they are laser-focused for 60 minutes.

That hasn’t been the case this season for them so far. Evan Bouchard didn’t hesitate to be honest with the media about what adjustments they needed to make.

“Consistency is important if you want to be a good team. You’ve gotta be consistently good & we’re finding ways to not play a full 60 minutes.”

Oilers next game will be against the New York Rangers at Rogers Place on Saturday
