Pitcher Nick Martinez accepts the one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to return in 2025
In the 2024 season, he posted a 10-7 record with a 3.10 ERA, including 116 strikeouts in 42 games.
Martinez’s return solidifies the Reds’ rotation with Frankie Montas, Hunter Greene, Graham Ashcraft, and Andrew Abbott.
Can this rotation be good enough to help the Reds make the playoffs?
It’s a well-balanced rotation because you have youth and experience. Montas and Martinez bring a veteran presence to the rotation, and Abbott and Greene are the young core of the rotation.
He’s entering the 2025 season with lots of hope and expectation. The Reds have a young core of talented players such as Elly De La Cruz, Andrew Abbott, and Matt McLain.
More prospects, such as Chase Burns, Rhett Lowder, etc., could be present in 2025 or 2026.
The Reds have a new manager in Terry Francona, a two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox and two-time AL Manager of the Year.
Francona knows how to get the best out of his players, and Martinez would be thrilled to have him in the dugout. Francona is one of the best managers in the game.
President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall and his staff are excited to have Martinez back. He’s the caliber pitcher that brings versatility and a winning attitude to the team.
The Reds organization is hoping Martinez can pick up where he left off down the stretch last season.
In the previous seven games, he posted a 4-1 record with a 1.76 ERA, including 34 strikeouts and a 0.85 WHIP through 8 starts.
