Robert De Niro will receive this year’s Honorary Palme d’Or at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Meryl Streep and Jodie Foster are some of the actors who have received the Honorary Palme d” or honor. De Niro will be joining that group of actors.
It’s no surprise that De Niro will receive this honor from the festival. De Niro and Cannes have a long-lasting relationship. His last appearance at the festival came during the press tour and festival run for his performance working with Martin Scorsese in “Killers of the Flower Moon,’ which currently streams on Apple TV Plus.
De Niro is one of the greatest actors of all time. He began his career by working with filmmakers like Brian De Palma. De Niro worked with De Palma in pictures such as Greetings, The Wedding Party, Hi Mom, and later on in the 1987 classic The Untouchables.
Although De Palma took a chance on De Niro, his collaborations with Scorsese took him to legendary status, and it all began with Mean Streets. De Niro and Scorsese worked on ten films together. One of those films, Raging Bull, landed De Niro the second Oscar of his career. The first one was for The Godfather 2.
The veteran actor will receive the honor on May 13, and the moment will happen during the festival’s opening ceremony. De Niro will hold a masterclass at the Debussy Theatre the next day.
