Tampa Bay Rays couldn’t get to Michael Lorenzen as they fell to the Kansas City Royals, 3-1 on Wednesday at George M. Steinbrenner field.
Lorenzen took the mound for the Royals and pitched six strong innings, allowing just one earned run and four hits. Lorenzen recorded his 50th career win.
Taj Bradley took the mound for the Rays and got the loss. Bradley gave up two earned runs, walked three batters, and had two strikeouts in seven innings.
Junior Caminero went 3-for-4 in the game. Caminero scored the only run for the Rays when he belted a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Freddy Fermin was the second key player of the game for the Royals. Fermin finished the night with three hits and an RBI.
The loss snapped Rays’ 5-game winning streak. The Rays left nine men on base. First baseman Jonathan Aranda and right fielder Kameron Misner are in a mini-slump. Misner has been struggling in the last two games. The same can be said about Aranda.
Yandy Diaz is starting to produce and coming up in big spots. Diaz is 10-for-25 in the last six games.
Drew Rasmussen (1-1, 2.10 ERA, 27 SO) will pitch for the Rays on Wednesday and go up against Noah Cameron (0-0). The game will start at 7:05.
