Tampa Bay Rays dominated the Toronto Blue Jays with a 13-0 victory to close out the weekend series with a sweep at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The Rays erupted for seven runs in the 5th and four in the 7th. Overall, the Rays collected 15 hits. Ryan Pepiot earned his third win of the season. He finished with five strikeouts in seven inning of work.
Second baseman Brandon Lowe put the Rays on the board when he hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Lowe had a great game. He went 3-for-4 with two runs and 2 RBIs. A different Lowe, right fielder Josh Lowe, went 2-for-4.
Rays catcher Ben Rortvedt had three RBIs. Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, Curtis Mead, and Jonathan Aranda combined for six RBIs. Aranda leads the team with a .297 batting average.
With the victory, the Rays reached the .500 mark (26-26). The Rays are currently in second place in the American League East division. They are six games behind the New York Yankees for first place.
When the Rays play good offense and outstanding pitching like they did on Sunday, it would be scary to go up against any team. The Rays need to be consistent. Things are slowly going everything their way.
The Rays will take on the red-hot Minnesota Twins tonight at 7:05. Zack Littell (3-5, 4.25 ERA) will take the mound against Chris Paddock (2-4, 3.98 ERA.)
