Baseball could lock out in December 2026 if team management and players don’t reach a consensus.
We could see a risky situation like it did back in 1995, where regular-season games were cancelled due to the 1994 strike. Baseball should know better that fans felt betrayed when this happened, and it could hurt their ratings.
Players are going to fight hard for the salary cap, and one of the players who became vocal about it is New York Mets first baseman Oete Alonso. Alonso is having an MVP-caliber season and is currently in his contract year.
Commissioner Rob Manfred will face one of the toughest moments of his career if this doesn’t go according to plan. Baseball doesn’t have a salary cap compared to other sports like the NBA, NFL, and NHL.
