The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Sacramento A’s 8-2 on Wednesday thanks to Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero’s home runs.
Rays starter Drew Rasmussen has been sensational for the team this season. In his start against the A’s, he was on a mission. He pitched for six innings with five strikeouts and gave up just one run.
Rasmussen earned his second career double-digit win. He improves to a 10-5 record. If he can keep this going, he could be the No. 1 starter for the Rays next season.
The Rays had a strong first inning. Josh Lowe, Caminero, and Jake Magnum collected three straight RBI singles with two outs in the inning. It was terrific Rays baseball. That’s the version of the team that everyone wants to see from them.
Lowe hit a two-run home run. He has homered five times throughout the road trip. Lowe now has 24 home runs in the season, and this one is special because it’s his 150th career home run. Congratulations to Brandon on reaching the milestone. He has 50 more to go to reach 200 home runs.
Caminero continues to have a season for the ages. He has 34 home runs and 84 RBIs. He’s on pace to reach 40 home runs and 100 RBIs.
The Rays’ bullpen did a fantastic job as well. Griffin Jax came into the game in the 8th inning and struck out the side. Jax, Byron Baker, and Mason Englert combined for eight strikeouts.
The Rays will continue their road trip and face the San Francisco Giants beginning on Friday. Joe Boyle (1-2, 3.82) will pitch against Landen Roupp (7-6, 3.11 ERA). Both teams have similar records. The Rays are 59-63, and the Giants are 59-62. The game starts at 10:15 pm ET.
