The Cincinnati Reds are calling up their top prospect, infielder Sal Stewart.

The Reds selected the 21-year-old in the 2022 MLB Draft as the 32nd overall pick. Stewart is showing a lot of promise. He has a lot of talent, and the Reds can use someone like him for a full season next year.

Stewart is from Miami, Florida. In 118 games this season. He batted .309 with a .907 OPS, 20 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 17 steals. Stewart spent the bulk of the season in Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville.

He plays both second and third base. He throws and bats with his right hand. The Reds are promoting him, and it’s going to be a memorable September for Stewart and his family.

Stewart might be one of those players who wants to be great, and he’s already showing that he wants to learn from the best. According to MLB.com, Stewart has spent some time working out with San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado during the offseason.

When a player wants to achieve greatness, they go out and search for answers, asking questions to great players who have years of experience.

As for the Reds, they have been struggling lately. The Reds have lost 8 of their last 10 games. The Reds are entering September trailing the New York Mets by four games for the final wild-card playoff spot.

If the Reds somehow catch fire and Stewart contributes right away, then there could be a chance of the Reds making the postseason. The National League has a designated hitter available. If the Reds don’t have a spot at second or third base for Stewart in September, then putting him on DH won’t be so bad after all. Stewart has played the first base position, but only twice. Therefore, it might be safe for the Reds to keep him away from first for now.
