Coco Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula in a hard-fought match to win the Wuhan Open Final.

Gauff made an impressive comeback in the second set when she was trailing 3-5 and went on to secure eight straight points.

The 21-year-old Gauff had to work for it to earn this title. Before her match with Pegula, she had to beat another formidable opponent, Jasmine Paolini, in the semifinal.

Pegula and Gauff have a history of battles. The Wuhan Final was their seventh career meeting and first in a final. In a head-to-head matchup, Pegula leads 4-3 overall against Gauff.

On this day, it belongs to Gauff, who has won her first nine hard-court finals. She is the first woman to achieve this in the Open Era. She is also the first woman to win nine consecutive hard-court finals since Serena Williams in 2015.

Gauff improved her Finals record to 11-3. As for Oegula, she’s now 9-11. Pegula is a gamer, and the best is yet to come for her. Before achieving success, there must be failure. Pegula will ultimately win due to her tenacity and grit.
