Reggaeton Artist Karol G has a new documentary on Netflix, Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful. The documentary focuses on the behind-the-scenes aspects of his concert tour and personal life, including her humble beginnings.
Karol G is one of the best artists in the reggaeton genre and perhaps arguably the queen of the modern era. It didn’t come easy because it is an industry where it’s male-dominated, but she’s always been a fighter, and she has a strong supporting system, starting with her family.
Karol knew she always wanted to be a singer for as long as she could remember. She idolized Selena Quintanilla. Watching her gave her the idea that it is possible to reach that level of success. It was a nice moment to see Karol and Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister, embrace backstage before Karol went on to the stage.
Sadly, Selena was killed in 1995. It would’ve been great to see Selena and Karol meet and get to know each other in the present. Karol believes that Selena would’ve been the first Latina artist to perform in a stadium.
Throughout the documentary, you see the beginning of the scenes and the relentless work of Karol G rehearsing before the show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Karol is very emotional. She faces many doubts and is constantly hard on herself because she wants the concert to hit it through the stratosphere for her fans.
Karol got visibly upset when one of her songs got leaked. It was a special and personal song for Karol because it’s about her previous relationship.
One of the things that stands out about the documentary is when a young Karol was singing “Killing Me Softly” by The Fugees. That part of the documentary was incredible to witness.
Second, Karol quit music after being mistreated by her former manager. She didn’t tell her parents the truth because she was uncomfortable discussing what really happened at the time. Karol’s dad was very disappointed in her and they didn’t spoke for months.
Karol’s parents supported her when she moved to Bogotá, Colombia, at 16 to pursue her music career. She was fortunate to have two parents who did that for her, so when she quit, her dad didn’t receive the news too well.
After this situation, Karol moved to New York to live with her aunt and studied English and Business Administration. It’s one of the things that not many people know about Karol. So it was interesting to learn that about her.
We also learn that Karol receives daily treatment for a hormonal condition that affects her insulin levels. She’s dealt with weight problems.
Behind the struggles and all the trials and tribulations, Karol overcame everything, and she made her family proud. She reached her dreams, and her family is extremely proud of her. There’s a beautiful emotional scene between Karol and her mom in the last 30 minutes of the documentary.
It’s a documentary worth checking out and seeing for yourself. Karol doesn’t hold anything back and opens up about her life and career.
