Actress Amanda Seyfried is getting massive praise for her latest portrayal as Ann Lee in the upcoming historical musical drama film, The Testament of Ann Lee.
Ann Lee was the founding leader of the Shakers in the 18th century. Lee was 48 when she passed away in 1784. Seyfried has been on fire as a performer for the last 5-6 years. She earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance in David Fincher’s Mank, which premiered in 2020 on Netflix.
Will Seyfried receive another Oscar nomination this season?
Seyfried has come a long way since her role in Mean Girls in 2004. She’s an actress who loves to be challenged and to take on roles that will elevate her.
“The challenge is within certain parameters,” Seyfried said during a CBS Sunday Morning interview. “I have had enough therapy and enough insight and perspective to know what happens when I may fall too deep into something, and I have enough tools and support not to let that happen. So every time I say it’s a challenge, it’s tough, and I look back, and I’m like, I wouldn’t do that again. But when I’m in it, it’s more than a challenge. It’s a new life. I’m being born into something, a new version of myself.”
Amanda has done fantastic work on other projects, including earning Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Hulu’s The Dropout (2022), in which she played Elizabeth Holmes. She was also part of the Mamma Mia film series.
As for The Testament of Ann Lee, the film has praise not just for her performance but also for the cinematography, script, and costume design. The film was shot on a 10-million-dollar budget. It’s expected to be released in North America on Christmas Day.
