Former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Corey Dickerson will return to Tampa as he got hired as the new first base coach for the organization.

The 36-year old will experience his first coaching job in the majors. Dickerson played for eight different teams throughout his 11 MLB seasons. He spent two seasons with the Rays, where he made his only All Star selection in 2017. During that 2017 season, Dickerson slashed .282/.325/.490 with 27 home runs and 62 RBis.

It would’ve been great had he kept up these statistics consistently for the Rays. Dickerson could’ve played for the organization for a couple of more years but the business of sports is a whole different ballgame.

Dickerson was a good defensive player. He earned a Gold Glove award the following season in 2018, but he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Although he played for many different teams but he’s exciting to come back to the Raysnorganization. He’s going to be working real close with the outfielders and establish a strong communication and chemistry. His experience will be beneficial to how the players should excel in baserunning situations.

Being the first base coach in his first season will be the ultimate challenge. The Rays are expecting that he can thrive in this new chapter of his career. His coaching experience should be more successful and memorable than his playing days with the Rays. It’s time to set the bar high. Respect, commitment and being player friendly can go a long way. He can learn from a baseball legend like Ron Washington in that department.

Dickerson got selected by the Colorado Rockies in 2010 MLB Draft. He was the eighth round pick. Dickerson finished his career hitting 136 home runs, 469 RBIs and a lifetime .280 batting average.
