The great blizzard of 2026 had an impact across the East Coast. Massachusetts received a travel ban due to the storm.

Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable Counties receive a travel ban. The road conditions are very dangerous to drive on because of the storm. Governor of Massachusetts Maura Healey signed an executive order imposing an immediate ban on all non-essential motor vehicle travel.

“This is a serious storm,” Healey said. “This is one to take seriously.”

Police, ambulance, and any emergency vehicles are allowed. There are exemptions for food and delivery trucks as well.

Many people will be staying home, and many will take advantage of ordering food from outside if they don’t want to prepare their own meals.

In terms of flights, 974 flights have been cancelled out of Boston’s Logan Airport.

In New Jersey, people have been surprised by the amount of snow that has fallen. George Nikolis, a weather buff and New Jersey native, has seen many blizzards throughout his life. Nicholas uses a flashlight to record videos and capture this year’s blizzard. The 2026 blizzard feels different for him.

“This is something I haven’t seen in quite a long time,” Nikolis said. “This is probably like a once-in-15-years snowstorm, and I would say right now we are in the height of a blizzard.”

The snowstorm has been very intense. The storm has brought dangerous conditions across a variety of areas in New Jersey, including the Jersey Shore. People have stayed and taken vacations to the Jersey Shore. Businesses and restaurants had to shut down due to the storm’s massive impact.

When the snow turns icy, it can be dangerous for anyone walking or driving. Residents in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Connecticut must be cautious when they leave their homes. For people living in New Jersey, there are emergency travel rules to follow.

  • Speed limit lowered to 35 miles per hour
  • All interstates, U.S. routes, and state highways
  • Commercial vehicle travel ban is in effect

In New York, many parents and students are not the happiest campers today. Several parents decided not to risk sending their kids to school after Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that public schools would reopen on Tuesday.

More than 100,000 people signed a petition to not reopen schools. Residents are having trouble finding parking, and there is concern about kids walking to and from school. In addition, more than 30 inches of snow has fallen so far, with 2 feet reported in at least five states.
