Washington Wizards point guard Trae Young hasn’t played a game in 2026 yet. Young already got off to a lousy start by getting himself ejected with his new team while sitting on the bench. The Wizards lost to the Houston Rockets, 123-118, on Monday night.
Young is recovering from knee and quadriceps injuries. There are already discussions about the Wizards’ potential to extend him. Young has a $49 million player option this offseason. The Wizards are 16-44 this season. Young and all-star center Anthony Davis was acquired to help turn the organization around. Both men need to be fully healthy to see if they can deliver. Young was traded to the Wizards on January 7. Davis got traded to the Wizards on February 5.
In terms of Monday’s game, Young is competitive and always tense. He’s going to bring that same energy when he comes back to the court. He’s expected to make his Wizards debut on Thursday against the Utah Jazz. Young announced on social media that he will suit up and that he won’t get too many ejections in the future, but he will show passion and emotion in the heat of battle.
Why did Young get thrown out of the game? Well, he didn’t like some of the calls and decisions the officials were making during the game. There was a confrontation between Tari Eason and Jamir Watkins. Whatever Young said to the official didn’t sit well with them.
Young is a four-time All-Star. In his first game back, the Wizards are going to be cautious with him in terms of limiting minutes. In 10 games this season, Young has averaged 19 points and nearly nine assists.
