Physical Media will most likely make a comeback. Life is a cycle. Things are meant to return at some point. DVDs and VHS will make an impact again.
The excitement about DVDs and VHS is that not only will it bring back memories for those who used them back in the day, but it also gives the Gen-Z generation a taste of what it feels like to use those items.
As great as technology is, nothing tops physical media. Remember when Blockbuster was around? Remember when there were multiple video stories around the neighborhood? Don’t we deserve to have something like that again, even if it’s for a short run? There’s a special connection when you go out to rent and buy a physical product.
Baby Boomers, Gen X, and even Millennials know the great feeling of owning a DVD player and a VHS player. Many folks still own both productions to this day. Those individuals who still have them are champions. Those items should be kept forever. The same applies to video game consoles. If you still have classics like the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, you are a champion as well.
Another great example of certain things coming back is the Michael Jordan sneakers. A person may miss out on the Jordan 12s black and red sneakers, but they will return in about 5 years or less. It’s a cycle. It all comes back, no matter how long it takes.
There could be many reasons for a resurgence of physical media. One possible main factor is that the young crowd (Gen Z) is growing frustrated with subscription pricing from streaming services. Netflix, Amazon, Peacock, HBO Max, Hulu, and many more platforms are competing to gain the most subscribers, and prices will continue to increase year by year.
It’s much better to buy movies and shows and watch them whenever you want. Besides, there’s an expiration date for every movie and show streaming on those platforms.
