The San Antonio Spurs defeated the New York Knicks, 115-111, on Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points to lead the Spurs in scoring, along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
San Antonio got off to a fast start. Stephon Castle had 7 points in the first quarter. Spurs’ role players were scoring in the first. Spurs were scoring in the paint and driving to the basket.
The Knicks rallied in the second quarter. They went on an 8-0 run in two minutes. Jalen Brunson gave them the first lead of the game with 5 minutes left in the second. The Knicks made excellent ball movement and smart decisions on certain possessions by avoiding threes and going more to the basket. The Knicks led by five at halftime.
Spurs would regain the lead in the third quarter. Both teams were exchanging baskets and playing really competitive basketball in the quarter.
Turnovers were the Knicks’ biggest problem of the night. They had more than 10 turnovers. Any team in any game with more than 10 turnovers is not a good look, and there’s a high chance that it can change the outcome of the game.
Jalen Brunson had a great game. Brunson finished with 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. OG Anunoby was great with 28 points. OG had been sensational for the Knicks in the series. Mikal Bridges had a quiet night after a great Game 2 performance. Karl Anthony Towns struggled with just 11 points. Josh Hart added 16 points. Landry Shamet didn’t get much going in this game.
Stephon Castle hitting the big three at the end of the fourth quarter, plus the two clutch free throws, helped the Spurs win Game 3. Castle finished the game with 23 points. De’Aaron Fox’s big shot down the stretch also contributed to the victory. Spurs also played solid defense in the last few minutes.
The Spurs steal Game 3 on the road. The team will be more confident going into Game 4. The Knicks still lead the series 2-1. Game 4 will be on Wednesday night.
