The Matthew Tkachuk-Evander Kane rivalry will last, even with Tkachuk moving to a different conference. The two have faced off numerous times as part of the Battle of Alberta and other Pacific Division showdowns during Kane’s tenure with the San Jose Sharks. Villanova are the 2022 Big East Champions! Villanova took down Creighton with a final score of 54-48. Creighton is a very good defensive team, but Villanova’s offense, led by leader Collin Gillespie lifted the Wildcats in the second half. The Wildcats improve to 26-7 and have punched their ticket to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. It’s Villanova’s fifth Big East title since Jay Wright became the head coach. Gillespie, the Big East Player of the Year, got named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament.

Baseball is back, and we are very excited about the news. One change that I’m excited about is the playoff format. Now, 12 teams can make the postseason. After the Mariners and Blue Jays failed to make the 2021 postseason, I thought that baseball would add more teams in the future to make the playoffs. My wish came true, and I didn’t expect it so soon. This is how the 12-team MLB Playoff Bracket will work:

Seeds No. 1 and No. 2 in each league get byes. No. 4 plays No. 5 for the right to face the top seed. No. 3 plays No. 6 for the second seed’s right—no more Game 163. Well, I hope I’m right about this.

The Chicago Bears traded six-time Pro Bowl defensive end Khalil Mack, to the Los Angeles Chargers. In return, the Chargers sent a 2022 second-round draft pick and a 2023 sixth-rounder to the Bears. In that first season with Chicago, Mack finished with 12.5 sacks and second place in the AP Defensive Player of the Year vote. It was the only double-digit-sack season in Chicago; he had six in 2021, but they came in seven games, as he had season-ending foot surgery in November. As for the Chargers, their defense got better. Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa will be an interesting defensive duo to watch next season. Over the past five seasons, Mack and Bosa both rank top four in total defensive pressures.

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy left the game on a stretcher early in the first period of Saturday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators after being checked head-first into the boards by Senator’s rookie blueliner Parker Kelly. As Murphy left the ice on a stretcher, a broadcast camera caught him giving a thumbs up.

Cleveland Browns’ quarterback threw four interceptions for the first time in his career, and it came at the expense of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers’ defense was all over him in yesterday’s game. The browns had many opportunities to win on the road, but costly mistakes cost them the game. The Packers won, and now they won their fourth in a row yesterday, improving the team to 12–3. The Browns have now lost four of their last six and are two games back in the loss column behind the Bills for the No. 7 seed in the AFC.

In the second game of NFL Christmas Day, the Indianapolis Colts took on the Arizona Cardinals. It was a low-scoring game, but in the end, the Colts made the proper adjustments just enough to take one on the road. The Colts defense pressured Kyler Murray in the 4th quarter, forcing him to scramble and make incompletions. Cardinals started the season as one of the hottest teams in the NFL, but injuries and inconsistent play on the field are hurting them. Cardinals have lost three in a row, dropping to 10-5 and second place in the NFC West division.

Before the season began, everyone had Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Lakers to meet in the NBA Finals. So far, those predictions are looking slim. On Christmas Day, the Nets and Lakers faced off to give the fans a taste of a future Finals matchup. However, in this game, not every player was at full strength. No Kevin Durant, no Kyrie Irving, no Anthony Davis for this heavyweight matchup. A veteran guard stole the spotlight and the show, Patty Mills. He was sensational from behind the arc finishing the game career-high 34 points. It was the fifth consecutive loss for the Lakers, who fell to 16-18, while the Nets improved to an Eastern Conference-best 22-9 with an impressive 12-3 record on the road.

The Mets have hired Buck Showalter as their next manager. The 65-year-old is heading back to New York for the first time since 1995. Showalter is well-known for his work in the Bronx from 1992-95, leading and developing the pre-dynasty Yankees for four seasons. He worked for 20 years as a big-league manager for the Yanks, D-backs, Rangers, and Orioles, most recently spending nine seasons in Baltimore from 2010-18.

Andrew Nembhard scored 16 points, Rasir Bolton added 15, and No. 5 Gonzaga fought off No. 25 Texas Tech’s tenacious defense for a 69-55 win in the Colangelo Classic on Saturday. Gonzaga has a great team. Texas Tech needs some work on offense but has a lot of transfers, so it’ll take some time.

DeWayne McBride rushed for over 180 yards in the Blazers’ 31-28 upset over No. 13 BYU in the Independence Bowl. The win means UAB finishes the season at 9-4 and has won at least nine games in three of the past four seasons. UAB is an outstanding team and put in an exceptional performance. Maybe UAB is underrated. As for BYU, they have a tough schedule next year. Hopefully, this loss will be a wake-up call for them.

Dylan Larkin got his first career hat trick and assisted as the Detroit Red Wings handed the New Jersey Devils their fifth consecutive loss, 5-2 on Saturday. New Jersey has allowed four or more goals in 15 games this season.
